Internal Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoid is a medical problem in which the veins connecting the rectum and the anus swell and form a lump of inflamed mass which leads to itching and bleeding. This disease has become very common in today’s stressful life caused by stress at work due to higher workloads leading to high blood pressure and hypertension.

People these days do not really care about the kind of food they eat leave apart eating food on time. This causes digestive problems and hardening of stool which leads to rupture of the walls of the anus and the rectum, their swelling and bleeding. Women suffering from premenstrual syndrome are also prone to this disease. There are various life style factors such as excessive consumption of alcohol, eating too much of spicy food, stress at work not taking rest and sleep on time are equally contributable.

Hemorrhoids are basically categorized in to two: external hemorrhoids and internal hemorrhoids depending on their location. Out of these the most dangerous and difficult to diagnose are the internal hemorrhoids because they do not cause much pain. The area of the anus directly above the opening does not have pain receptors and this is the reason why people do not realize when they have contracted the disease. But there are chances of these internal ones to bleed whenever they are irritated by hard stool or constipation. The internal hemorrhoid can move out of the anal opening much explained by a medical term known as prolapse hence forth known as prolapsed hemorrhoid and is a type of internal hemorrhoid. There are sphincter muscles inside the anus which control the opening and closing of the anus whose contraction and relaxation is a normal phenomena. If these muscles get contracted there are chances that they get in contact with the prolapsed hemorrhoid. The sphincter muscles get entangled with the prolapsed hemorrhoid and form a new type known as strangulated hemorrhoid thus causing more discomfort and pain to the patient.

Internal hemorrhoids can be prevented if they are diagnosed at proper point of time. They can usually be detected when one sees the stool coated with blood. As the stool passes through the sphincter which contains the internal hemorrhoid it gets coated with blood though it may not cause much pain. Thus, it is always better to watch stool once at least in a day for a person who is suspecting the disease. Timely detection of this condition will definitely prevent the more severe hemorrhoids like prolapsed hemorrhoid and strangulated hemorrhoid.
