Anal Fissure

All the organs in a human body work in a synchronized manner with each other, any problem with one particular organ or system may lead to its complete dysfunction in turn hampering the entire cycle of the various processes occurring in the body.

Anal fissure is one such problem caused due to imbalance in blood flow in the anal region. A fissure is basically tearing off of a particular lining or skin part. This can be caused in the anal area due to several reasons. Not able to pass stool in a normal way and it becoming hard can cause anal fissures. This happens when proper dietary care is not taken and there is a prolonged intake of junk food, excessive consumption of alcohol, spicy food and even smoking.

These small fissures can line the entire circumference of the anal region causing moderate to severe pain during defecation. There are mucus membranes lining the inner walls of the various organs responsible for absorption of nutrients and excretion of waste materials. The mucus membranes in the anus may get stretched beyond their normal limits due to unperiodic and hard stool leading to fissures.

These fissures occur commonly but they heal gradually in a day to day process because they are very minor in nature. But regular hard stool can form permanent fissures which do not heal naturally and need proper medical attention. Anal mucosal membrane is the most sensitive and spasms could lead to blockage of blood supply to them. When the blood is not supplied, an ulcer is caused which can only be treated medically.

We understand that if there is friction with some part of the skin for a prolonged duration it may lead to tearing of the skin known as fissures. The anal fissure can happen to small children as they are delicate. Proper sanitary care should be taken in order to avoid anal fissures in kids. It is also common in women after delivering a child.

Its better at all times to take care of dietary habits than inviting these kinds of medical problems. One should prefer diet full of fibers and ingredients which help softening the stool and reducing the chances of fissures. One should prefer fruit juices to tea or coffee and smoking. People while busy with work tend to decrease the intake of water which should be avoided. Less amount of water in the body leads to hardening of the stool. People who normally experience hard stool should always consume stool softeners after consulting a doctor to prevent rupture of the anal linings. It is always a good habit to keep self clean and hygienic which means bathing at least twice in a day and keeping one clear of bacteria and other germs.

Most of the fissures heal naturally unless they are deeply embedded. But if the person knows that he is finding defecating painful or if there is redness in the stool, it is advisable always to consult a doctor rather than waiting for it to heal for itself.
